First Papillon Limited
Agility Show is Great Success
The Club held their Fun-day and Agility show at Bradfield in July. The weather in the South and the West had not been kind and the night before the event there was dreadful flooding everywhere. However, under the circumstances there was a tremendous turnout to support this event.
A little bit of Papillon History was made with the holding of the first ever Kennel Club licensed Limited Agility Show for Papillons. There was a terrific entry of 37 dogs making 71 runs and this was a delight to experience, watching the breed race around and over the obstacles was fantastic and the audience was certainly very appreciative with their applause. Luckily the ground had drained sufficiently to make the running safe. There were two handsome perpetual trophies donated by Mrs Pat Munn to be known as the Ringlands Agility Trophies, to be presented each year to the overall winners in Grades 1-2 and 3-5.
The two overall winners this year were:- Milly Jones with Tio - Inixia Hell for Leather (Grades 3-5) and Marion McIlherne with Fizz - Pinelan Lady Luck of Xelbi (Grades 1-2). The trophies and rosettes were presented during the lunch break, the complete results were as follows:
Jumping 1-2
1st - Amanda White - Barleybright Teo Amo Blanco
2nd - Marion McIlherne - Pinelan Lady Luck of Xelbi
3rd - Jane Burton - Barleybright Star Eyes
Agility 1-2

Congratulations to everyone that took part.
The event was certainly a success and we look forward to next year when the event will be held on the 19th July again at Bradfield. Details on the Club website and also on www.agilitynet.com
Moving on to Obedience, Margy Wigan was thrilled to hear of the success of one of the puppies she had bred. It was rather large at birth so Margy named him Murvagh Finn McCool after the Irish giant. Finn went to Club member Carolyn Lloyd who wanted a Papillon for Obedience training. Mrs Lloyd also works Collies. "Finn" at 11 months (competing in Novice) went to his very first show, which was a Championship Show and out of a class of 36 dogs, all Collies and larger, he came a very creditable 6th. During the "stays" a rather large dog broke his stay to go and investigate this extraordinary little object, and Finn didn't bat an eyelid! The grass was rather long and I was amused to read "Finn" had to be called back to heel after having to deal with a Dandelion which got caught in his trousers, (I wonder if bicycle clips are allowed?) seriously, well done to "Finn", I hope we hare more of him. An Obedience Papillons is a rare sight ... Finally, the Club's annual trophy for Top Agility Papillon, the "Harlie the Magnificent" trophy will be presented to the Top winning Papillon at the Papillon AGility League show which is held in December, when all the results have been received. Anyone wishing more information about Papillons in Agility should contact Denise Welsh on 01323 441583.
Christmas Message from our Chairman
Another year passes and Christmas is with us again. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for giving so much support to our club. A club is only as good as its members and from the very encouraging support you have all given, the club seems to be going from strength the strength. The club is here for the members and we are open to any suggestions you may like to make which you feel may improve things further. I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and my best wishes to everyone for a very Happy New Year.

Fun-Day
We had a most enjoyable Fun-day at Bradfield in July, combined with the Agility show. There was a very good turnout considering the weather. Although the day stayed dry we decided to hold the event indoors for the first time. It was a little crowded but everything went off well. There was a lovely turnout of baby puppies for the Puppy walk, these always attracting ooh's and ah's from the onlookers. Mrs Pat Cox had the job of judging the Novelty classes, which were well filled. Janet and Ian Chandler and their helpers produced, as usual, the lovely buffet lunch. During the lunch break the Agility prizes were awarded and the "Giant" cheque was presented to Breast Cancer Research UK for the sum of £1316.50 which had been collected at this years "Papillons Walk for Charity". The day ended with a splendid tea during which, the Fancy Dress parade took place. This always produces some very amusing costumes. There was a bit of the "Dunkirk spirit" with regards to the weather but as usual everything turned out well in the end with members being able to get away in good time before the heavens opened once again. Next year we will hold Fun-day on the 19th july at Bradfield and we are all keeping our fingers crossed for good weather so we can return outdoors and enjoy some sun.

Show News
We are pleased to welcome Mr Keith Langdon to committee. Keith has agreed to take on the post of Show Manager. The Open Show on 17th May 2008 will see Mr J Fothergill judging the breed and Mrs J Gummer judging the Welfare classes and the J.H.A. classes. Keith will be distributing the Schedules for the show at Crufts and posting them thereafter. The list for donating shields to our first Championship show is filling up nicely, thank you all for your donations. If you would like to add your name to the list contact Keith on 01452 770117.
We are delighted to announce the Kennel Club have reviewed the allocation of CC's for Papillons and have been offered an extra set of CC's for 2010. At present the matter is under discussion at the Papillon Breed Council, but the initial thoughts are to hold one Championship Show somewhere centrally in the country combining all the 5 Papillon Clubs of the UK. Further details will be published when the plans are finalised.
