The Officers and Committee were thrilled to have an entry of 269 dogs making 299

Best in Show

entries for our first Championship show and they send their sincere thanks to everyone that contributed to the show being such a rousing success. To attract such an entry is amazing and the support from members has been truly fantastic.

The Judges were Mrs S Colyer (Dogs), Mr T Nethercott (Bitches) and Mrs Sylvia Jones Welfare, JHA and Referee. The generosity of the exhibitors was fantastic, with 37 perpetual shields being sponsored by the various kennels. Eukanuba supplied lots of dog food and prizes. Each of the UK Papillon Clubs made a generous donation by way of prizes—Three bottles of Scotch from the Papillon Club of Scotland, Shields from both the Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club and the South Wales Papillon Club and Sashes from the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club. With various prizes donated from other kennels the prize table was groaning........ The Club also gave £10 to each first place in the breed classes, along with Club medals for 1st to VHC; the special souvenir catalogue was also very well accepted. The Juniors did well with goodie bags and lots of gifts too. There was a super atmosphere and the sports hall was very large and airy, with good lighting. Alan Walker (Our dogs Photographer) was present to record the event, do look out for the celebration spread in the coming weeks in “Our Dogs”.

The Sun Shines FOR FUNDAY

We were so lucky to have great weather for the Clubs Fun-Day and Agility show at

Bradfield. After a couple of wet years we were able to set up  the Fun-Day outdoors alongside the Agility ring which made for easy watching of all the goings on

There was an adorable clutch of baby puppies taking their first steps in the show ring during the Puppy Parade; this is a vital exercise for novice puppies to learn the ways of showing and to gain confidence in the wide world outside their protective home environment. The fun classes were judged by Denise Pearch and are always well filled, more so because all the income from these classes goes to Papillon Welfare. There were plenty of juniors showing off their handling skills, also quite a few senior handlers

in the following class trying to emulate the juniors' very professional skills...

Lots of prizes on offer always makes for well filled classes. Mary Melvin did a grand job extracting a huge amount from those present by selling the raffle tickets, the grand prize being a camcorder!

With plenty of home-made produce on offer along with the usual goodies on the both the club stall and the welfare stall, I am pleased to say we made a goodly sum for Papillon Welfare. The usual all-in buffet was delicious and as usual prepared and served by Ian and Janet Chandler and their helpers. After lunch we were treated to two excellent displays of Heel Work to Music,

Mrs Graystock performed with her Papillon to “The Teddy bears Picnic” and a young member Miss Emily High made her debut at Funday making some excellent moves with her Papillon to “I Like to Boogie”.

The Fancy-Dress parade brings the event to a close at tea-time, this year the theme was “Pirates” and there were some excellent human and canine Pirates on display. Next Years Fun-Day will take place on 17th July , mark the Date in your diary, it really is a very enjoyable day out, next year we also plan to run Good Citizens tests during the day.

AGILITY PAPILLONS ARE REAL FLYERS

As always Denise and Alec Welsh did a grand job setting up the Agility course with their helpers. The show attracted a good entry and watching the Papillons whizz round the course was a delight. The presentation of rosettes and prizes after the show was a joy to watch with very generous applause to all the winners. This being the 3rd Limited Agility show the club has held, it has now firmly established itself in the Agility calendar has become a regular event for the serious Papillon Agility competitors, it really does show our breed off in a wonderful light.

P.R.A Testing

On the suggestion of one of our members, we are going to organise testing sessions for PRA and we shall be interested to hear from Members when and where they would like this to take place. It would be possible to set up an eye clinic at our Open Show at Chieveley. If our members prefer, the testing could be combined with a social event.

Please let a committee member know if you would be interested in having your dogs eyes tested at one of our events.

Education Day 2010

We are planning to hold Education day in conjunction with our AGM in March next year at Chieveley. We shall hold the AGM late morning which will be followed by lunch. The afternoon will consist of the Kennel Club seminar “Conformation and Movement” this takes about 2 hours and is now a requirement for those wishing to progress through he judging lists. Numbers will be limited and a flyer will go out at Christmas for you to reserve your place. For those not wishing to take the seminar we hope to organise a short walk with your dogs perhaps over the Ridgeway again this will take the form of “Papillons Walk for Welfare”, hopefully participants will attract some sponsorship and all the monies made will go to our Papillon Welfare fund.

Puppy Register

We are most fortunate to have the services of Margaret Unwin, who runs the Papillon Puppy register, if you would like to register a puppy or a litter with Margaret , give her a call so she can pass your details on to prospective buyers, Margaret also gets enquiries from time to time for older dogs, perhaps retired show/breeding stock. Call Margaret on 01243 862169 (between 9am –6pm please)

Christmas Party

Do fill in the enclosed flyer and reserve your ticket for this years Christmas Party, we have to restrict the numbers to 70 persons for this event and tickets are sold on a first come basis. Don't miss out—return your form today.

Papillon Welfare

We are extremely lucky to have the services of 3 welfare reps: Mrs P Clark, Mrs S Stanbury and Mrs D Welsh, this year already, several dogs have been safely homed and others have had their health problems treated. Thank you all for supporting our Papillon Welfare, we are pleased to say the Welfare account is back in the black after a rather expensive time recently and is now looking very healthy thanks to your kind donations. Pat Clark has been busy making dog beds which she sells for Welfare at various events; she is always on the look out for spare materials, old duvets, sheets, cottons etc. If you have any of these items please pass them on to a committee member so they can be turned into cash for welfare. Thank you.
