CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW - 03/08/13

Once again the year ended with much fun and frivolity at our annual Christmas Party Match. This year Mrs Sue Obbard went over the dogs and a goodly number there were.

As usual it was lovely to see all the baby puppies enjoying their first tentative steps in a strange environment. I'm sure the wafting smell of Roast Turkey added to their enjoyment, especially when they got a taste later in the day. Many thanks to Amanda and Kirsty who pulled out all the stops to serve us such a tasty lunch. There were spot prizes and a lucky party hat draw.

Santa arrived just in time to make sure everyone, dogs included got a gift. We had a very kind donation of a large grooming table which we auctioned for welfare and gained an excellent amount for.

Mrs Hazel Fairall never misses a party and this year she was presented with a cake and a gift to celebrate her 90th Birthday!

The Juniors always seem to have fun and this year possibly one of the youngest took part, she actually had to stand on the judges table to show her dog!

The Match was won by Mrs Borg's dog and the Best Puppy went to Mr & Mrs Brunsdon's. It is lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves away from the pressure that sometimes takes over at bigger shows, and judging from the feed back, our Christmas Party is set to run and run.

Welfare News

2009 proved to be a very busy time for our welfare representatives, with several dogs needing to be found new homes and sadly some of them needing very expensive veterinary treatment.

The welfare account at times was severely stretched but in true form, the members rallied and with most generous donations the account is looking healthier again. Thank you so much for donating, or supporting our events that raise money for this worthwhile cause.

To highlight one of last year's problems, we are publishing below a personal account of one of the dogs taken into welfare last year and looked after by Pat Clark.

The Brave Little Soldier

………….. “that is what the nurses at my vets call our rescue boy that we have at the moment, Brave? because his owner allowed his teeth to deteriorate until they rotted his gums and jaw! He had to have his teeth taken out, he then knocked himself and because of the weakness of his jaw—it broke! He now has two rods in one side, with which, I must say he is coping extremely well. They will have to be removed and then its - fingers crossed...

This brave lovable boy is 7 years old, in my opinion, if there is a reason for his teeth and jaw to rot, whatever that might be, lets face it he is no age, the owner should never had let it get that bad, at the earlier signs—even if it was the smell of his mouth - something should have been done.

The owner is a breeder who shows her dogs, she is a member of our club, she has not only let our lovely breed down by not caring enough for this “Butterfly”, she has also let the club down. I am so sad and I am ashamed of her that I for one will never forgive her.”
